The 2011 season for the JV Squad Looks Promising

Posted Monday, March 21, 2011 by Mat Bruno

In looking at the 2011 Rye Baseball season, two things stand out. Those things are hard work and dedication. This is what continues to make this program successful. Mat Bruno has been the Rye JV coach for the last 4 years and in doing so has put forth a hard working mentality with the players like no other. "My job as the JV coach is the get these kids ready for the varsity level of play "says Bruno looking into this upcoming season. " If I can get these kids ready for the next level, I've done my job."

Mat Bruno has done a good job at that as we continue to see a winning program on all levels on the program. "I think my brother - Mike - is a great varsity coach and he deserves all the credit. He brings out the best in everyone."

And the best is what we hope to see on the JV level this year. The JV team has a good core group of kids coming back to anchor the team this season. With a 16-20 game schedule, the team will look for there leadership to get a good start on the season. "16 games is a good amount but can get short really fast. We have to get on a streak and come out strong" says Bruno of his JV squad. "I am going to look for them to be leaders on and off the field."

The JV team opens the season at Sleepy Hollow on April 4th and ends the first half of there season with the biggest home game of the year vs. Harrison on April 14th. Spring break arrives and then it's back to baseball with the remaining schedule. The JV season ends on May 19th with an away game vs. Rye Neck.
